Halikarnas Mozolesi

Halikarnas Mozolesi, Kral Mausollos için karısı ve kız kardeşi tarafından yaptırılmış bir mezar. Bodrum civarında yapılmış ve yapımı M.Ö. 350 yılında tamamlanmış. Tabanın üstünde kenarları heykellerle süslenmiş basamaklı bir podyum bulunuyordu. Süslü su mermerinden yapılmış lahit ve mezar odası, podyumun üstünde bulunuyordu ve İyonya tarzı kolonlarla çevrilmişti. Sıra sütunlar, yine heykellerle süslenmiş bir piramit çatıyı destekliyordu. Dört tane savaş atıyla çekilen bir savaş arabası heykeli ise piramidin tavanını donatıyordu. Halikarnas Mozolesi’nin toplam yüksekliği 45 m. idi ve 4 tarafındaki 4 heykelin her birini ayrı bir heykeltıraş yapmıştı. Bu heykeller, tanrıların değil de insanlar ve hayvanların heykelleri olmasından dolayı tarihte özel birer yer tutarlar. 16. yüzyıl boyunca Halikarnas Mozolesi iyi bir durumda korundu. 15. yüzyılda Haçlı Seferleri sırasında St. John şövalyeleri bölgeye geldiler ve bugün Bodrum Kalesi olarak geçen büyük bir kale yaptılar. Bu kalenin yapımında Halikarnas Mozolesi’nin nerdeyse bütün taşları kullanıldı.Dünyanın yedi harikasından biri sayılan, kolonlarıyla Yunan mimarisini, piramit şeklindeki çatısıyla da Mısır mimarisini birleştiren, oldukça büyük boyutlardaki mezar. Bu öneminden dolayı kendinden sonra gelen, aynı stildeki tüm yapılara mozole denmiştir…

Mozole alanı bugün açık hava müzesi olarak düzenlenmiştir. İçeri girildiğinde sağda Bodrum tipi bir ev görülmektedir. Solda görülen uzun yapı içinde Mausoleion’la ilgili kabartmalar, maket ve bazı çizimlerle yapıya ait mimari parçalar sergilenmektedir.

Dünyanın Yedi Harikası’ndan biri diye tanımlanan mozolenin yükseldiği yer bugün bir çukur olarak görülür. Bu çukurun ne olduğunu anlamak için öncelikle kapalı sergi salonunun gezilmesi gerekir. Taban ölçüleri 32 x 38 metre boyutlarındaki Mausoleion, bir zamanlar uzun kenarı 242,5 kısa kenarı 105 metre olan geniş bir alanın kuzeydoğu köşesinde yükselmekteydi.
